We faced each other like mismatched gladiators. He kept one eye on me. The other, weeping copiously, remained closed. I crouched lower and held his Cyclopian gaze. Without warning, or apology, he opened his mouth wide. Two brown-stained tusks reared up like poorly maintained sabres, one on each side of his lower jaw. The interior of his mouth was a large, soft, moist, rose-pink cavern. He exhaled. A ghastly fishy stench bubbled up, and then he charged.
