"Why do you serve Me?”
“Because…you gave me purpose.”
“That is part of the reason, yes, but what is the real reason?”
War considered the question for long moments. In his entire existence, he had never thought to ask himself why he served. He simply did and felt blessed to do so. To serve God was certainly the highest honor that one could have.
“I am sorry, my Lord. I do not know how to answer the question.”
God smiled knowingly at him.
“You serve Me because you wish to. I have never ordered you or any of your bothers to serve Me, you simply wish to. Freewill. I may be omnipotent, but even I do not have the power to force a being to do something that they do not wish to do. Conquest serves Me because he is My son and is happy to do My bidding. Pestilence serves Me because…that is his way. As long as he is happy and can live his life in his usual happy and carefree manner, he will always serve Me and I value him greatly, just as I do My son. Death serves Me because he wishes to and for no other reason. Even I have little control over the power of death. Once a being’s life is extinguished and they pass through his realm, the noble ones come here and exist in the world that I have made for them. But, I do not control them. Why do you serve me?” He said looking at him.
"Because I…wish to?”
“Because you wish to.”
War had never thought of it like that before. He had always served God because he felt he owed Him some sort of obligation, but he now realized that he never questioned his place in life because he was happy and wanted to serve Him. He still did…but he also wanted to be with and share his life with Julie.
“I understand,” he finally said.
“And now…you no longer wish to serve Me?”
“Forgive me, my Lord…but I do not,” he said quietly and felt shame as the words escaped his mouth.
“I understand. There is no reason for you to feel shame of any sort. Men and women since I created them have died for the glory of love throughout the ages. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. Even with all of your considerable strength, you are helpless before it. But, know this - for you to fully embrace this life, you must become mortal. And, once you do, there can be no turning back. Now, I ask you, do you still desire to join her?”

War: Horseman of the Apocalypse is an engaging book that captures the reader's attention on page one. The characters are well developed and easy to visualize. Each was contrasted nicely against the others. The pace of this story was perfect. It holds the reader's attention so that it is hard to put down. The setting was a perfect backdrop for the characters and was an enhancement for their interactions. For those readers who enjoy romantic suspense mixed with supernatural influences, then this is the book to read!
