This book contains nine stories:
"A Journey Too Far." A malfunction in the ship's computer sends a hibernating astronaut far beyond his destination. When he awakens, he sees the mistake and programs the computer to return to Earth and goes back into cryogenic hibernation.He arrives on Earth to find a deserted planet except for robots and androids...who are at war with each other.
"Wolfeye." The Empress of the galaxy promises Wolfeye, a notorious space pirate, amnesty if he and his crew will rescue her daughter from rebel forces.
"The Man With Two Minds." An alien tries to take over the mind of an Earthman, but is only partially successful. The man's own mind and the mind of the alien battle for complete control.
"The Deer Hunters." The fate of Planet Earth is in the hands of a small group of deer hunters."
"Imposter." Earth is about to be hit by a comet that may desrroy all life on the planet. A scientist poses as an android to get aboard a starship that is scheduled to leave Earth to escape the destruction.
A man discovers that the "god" his people worship is nothing but an ancient computer, and the "temple" that holds it is an ancient spaceship that brought the ancestors of his people from a distant planet called Earth. He must keep this secret to himself, for revealing it would cost him his life.
"Shag and the Quirplian." A homeless alcoholic meets a space alien.
"Life Pod." Two astronauts must abandon a damaged space ship in life pods. One of them sabotages the other's life pod to even an old score.
"Mindswitch." An alien switches minds with an Earthman. Jack Ramsey finds himself in the body of the huge alien, and sees his own body being controlled by the mind of the alien. Jack is angry, but the alien reminds him that if he attacks, he will destroy his own body.
