Written in 1929, "Sons of the Sea" describes sailing on early 1900 schooners, exotic sea ports from England to Africa, and dastardly pirates enslaving the fair maiden!

Death was always a ships mate as Captain Beasley set sail for easy fishing in the North Sea. The chance of a fatality was 14 times greater than that of a coal miner at the start of the 20th century. Could the sea be a mistress that he could not forget? Gladly, this Yankee would give it all up for the Belle of Grimsby. However, she has many admirers, including Sir Henry Draker and the adoring fans of the stage. He would give up the sea and become a farmer if she would only be his. Shipping out to forget her, however, backfires when he discovers the unwilling passengers aboard and their true destination.

Excerpt

The sun rose over the distant mountains of the slave coast as the schooner cut through the rippling waters of the gulf. A little five knot breeze on the port beam drove her steadily along, while the watch on deck.....were squatted there sharpening their cutlasses.

Professional Reviews

Intriguing Adventure
I really enjoyed this story even though it took me awhile to become accustomed to the dialect used in this book. The story takes place in the very early 1900s and uses old english and sailing terms and phrases. The story of Jud Beasley, his comrades, enemies and love interest, Edith, comes to life right from the beginning. I learned much about old fishing vessels, schooners, and the lives of seamen as I followed Jud on his adventures as he tried to win the hand of Edith and avenge his father's death. I would like to express great gratitude to the author's grand-daughter for taking the time and effort to publish his entertaining story.
