All kids growing up have to deal with change...change in their bodies, yes, but more so, in their minds. Experimentation and a feeling that nothing is real - take over our thought processes. Anything goes when nothing is real. All food is cake frosting. It is actually a very easy way of life…no rules, no accountability, no blame. Growing up in the sixties was, in a word, “interesting.” I hear many today say the kids growing up in the nineties or the decade after the year 2000 as being the worst ever. I think there are only two reasons why that could be a true statement.
One, the coarseness and selfishness of the culture seems much more intense than it was in the Sixties. Coarseness fueled by violent video games, violent music, and violent talk leads one to believe you can hurt no one, for nothing is real. Case in point as I write this, on July 4, 2012, as we celebrate Independence Day for the United States of America (a day where we are to reflect and give thanks to the many who have given their lives for our freedom) we have a video out of Manchester England of a man completely tearing up a T-Mobile store. Just because he was upset over some minor point; all the while a crowd is cheering him on. One post on the Internet approved because they claimed T-Mobile had it coming. What? This is justification? How about you just don’t buy their product if you disapprove? I don’t care if you’re upset, little babies throw tantrums like this; there is no justification in destroying someone else’s property. It is still called vandalism, and the world does not revolve around you brother! How would you like it if you got what was coming to you…you’re a sinner and judgment a-coming!
“to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.” (Jude 1:15-16 ESV)
How would you like it if there was no grace, no forgiveness? Let’s get one thing straight as we launch into this journey to find out what a real Christian is like; you and I are sinners, plain and simple. The coarseness and selfishness in society proves we are all sinners. That is why I wrote this book; we have to acknowledge our sinfulness, and then we need to discover the only One that can save us…namely, Jesus Christ, our LORD and our Savior.
