Montana is Grandpa’s princess. They loved spending time together going for walks in the park or quietly sitting on the porch reading her favorite book. Grandpa had so many amazing stories and she loved listening to each one. If he said he hung the moon in the sky, Montana would have widened her eyes and believed every word. Their time together felt magical.
One day, her mommy said, “Grandpa is sick”, and the words froze in the air. Then she said the word “Cancer”, but Montana did not know that word. Mommy told her that the doctors were working hard to help Grandpa get better.
Mommy hugged Montana and asked if she had any questions. All Montana wanted to do was see Grandpa, but Mommy said he was in the hospital and four was too young to visit. She suggested Montana draw a picture for Grandpa, so she found her crayons and Mommy gave her paper.
