Chapter 2
CALL TO ACTION
In Washington, the President finished talking with the new Iraqi Prime Minister. He was happy to learn they were preparing to launch a concerted effort with the U.S. military, to defeat the growing threat of ISIS.
The President realized that the time was now, before something went wrong. He called for an immediate meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretaries of Defense and State. With everyone finally seated in the Oval Office, the President looked at his friends and colleagues.
“Something must be done about the untenable situation in Iraq and Syria. These ISIS criminals need to be stopped before it gets completely out of control.” The President sipped his coffee and continued, “I just got off the phone with the Iraqi Prime Minister. He is organizing his army along with Kurdish troops; they will be ready to work out a plan to take the fight to ISIS. Our first objective is to secure and reinforce the Al Assad and Q-West Airbases.”
One of the generals, Joint Chairman, and 4 Star General Robert Jacio, a decorated veteran of Desert Storm, stood up. “Yes, sir, Mr. President.” He looked at his fellow officers. “We have discussed this matter and strongly agree something needs to be done. We have been working on some initial planning, but there is a lot to do to make this happen, sir.”
The President stood up from behind his desk and smiled at all the top brass. “That’s why I have you guys here, and I will leave you men to what you do best. I expect to see the full report on the mission details as soon as you have it ready.”
He paused a moment, looking at his friend, the Defense Secretary. “Just a reminder, we need to keep security on this plan as tight as possible.”
The Defense Secretary nodded and thought, and now the noose is around my neck! I need to keep things going, to keep the President happy.
With that said, the meeting was ended and handshakes went around the table. There would be a series of meetings at the White House and the Pentagon to get things started, but at least now the wheels were in motion.

Over time, the approved plan of action to counter ISIS was starting to become a reality. The “Inherent Resolve” campaign was getting underway, with the help of the Iraqi Army and coalition forces that were deployed in Iraq and Syria. The boots were back on the ground and the rolling thunder was in the air. It would be a tough fight, against a determined enemy who knew the terrain well.
The Al Assad and Q-West Airbases in Iraq were the chosen places to rally from and take back Mosul from ISIS control. The surrounding areas were beginning to be reinforced, and the air and ground troops began building up. The fight against the evil terrorists—the fight to protect the innocent of the world and the freedom many of us enjoy today—was underway once more.
Unfortunately, freedom is not free. War comes at a cost to those who make the ultimate sacrifice.

Fast and fun... A well-plotted yarn.
High action, breakneck pacing, and political intrigue mark Saniscalchi's latest. Determined to make a career out of the Army, the US Army corporals, Jason Patrick and Derek Smith re-enlist for the Special Forces. With the untenable situation in Iraq and Syria, the US knows they must interfere to cull the increasing terror of ISIS. As Jason and Derek set out for Iraq with their selected Special Forces team, they are unaware of the dangers awaiting them ahead. The Delta team members are tough and likable characters while Emma and Andrew hold their own. The action is almost nonstop, with bodies galore and nice twists right to the end. Amid all the high-profile action and violence, Jason and Emma's romance brings lightheartedness to the narrative. Saniscalchi keeps a tight rein on his lightning-fast, action-packed plot, and the lengths that the courageous Delta team members go to in order to make the Operation Inherent Resolve a success make for thoroughly satisfying reading. Lovers of well-crafted military thrillers won't want to miss this one.

Author Robert J. Saniscalchi begins his novel 'BOND OF BROTHERS: DANGER CLOSE' with a little US Military History lesson (U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines, U.S. Special Forces and the turmoil in Iraq) which I enjoyed reading. Saniscalchi put his research to work developing an amazing cast of characters and real-life scenarios that draws the reader into the fight. The language is exact, the mission is real and the danger is close. You will want to read this military, action-packed, suspense thriller. Robert is a suburb story teller and adds a touch of romance to lighten the burden.

Bond of Brothers: Danger Close by Robert James Saniscalchi is unapologetically a novella that focuses on the bonds that are formed in times of war and on the armed forces of the United States. When seventeen-year-old Emma Sincol was contemplating life after high school in small-town Maryland, one of the colleges she was considering was St. John's College in Annapolis, where her high school friend Linda was going. As she sat in her room contemplating her future, the thought struck her that she could enlist in the armed forces, like her father, who had met her mother whilst he was serving in the Navy. The Air Force, however, had more appeal and she dreamed of the possibilities of learning to fly and possibly flying fighter jets. Meanwhile, at the Army Special Forces Training Camp at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, U.S. Army Corporal Jason Patrick, an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, had decided to make the Army his career and was about to embark on the grueling journey of attempting to qualify for the Army's Special Forces unit. Both Emma and Jason would find their paths in life bringing them together in the white-hot environment of Afghanistan, where they would be part of the coalition fighting against Iranian state-sponsored, terrorism.
Bond of Brothers: Danger Close is as realistic a portrayal I have read thus far of the extremes of calm and frantic action that define a conflict in today's modern, highly-mechanized armed services. Author Robert James Saniscalchi has created a set of characters that are real, believable, and as prone to doubt as any normal person but who also believe they owe a greater duty to their fellow combatants, their missions, and their country as a whole. The author's no-nonsense, tell it as it happens style of delivery is easy to read and absolutely riveting. That he also manages to incorporate a sweet romance and love story into the action-packed adventure is a real credit to both his research and his obvious extensive base knowledge of military procedures and protocols. I particularly appreciated that he presented the military actions of the "heroes" in this story with little to no hyperbole and did not shy away from the idea that in war even good people can die. For me, the book was a single sit-down read as each chapter begged the reader to see where this went next. That there is excellent character development of Emma and Jason despite the brevity of the novella is again a credit to the author. I really enjoyed this story and only wished it had been longer. This is a book that I can highly recommend and will definitely be seeking out more of this author's work.
