This book is the record of a two-week trip to Tasmania by the author. So, in one sense, it is a diary. The purpose of the trip was to attend his graduation from a Diploma of Family History course, and to go to a small town in the midlands to see what he could find out about his great great grandmother’s time there as a young Irish female convict in the 1850s. He also wanted to see places in Tasmania he hadn’t seen before.

This book is also an extension of the author’s many existing books, delving into history, philosophy, ethics, and personal growth. He compares it, whimsically, to Boswell’s London Diary of 1762-63.
