Why in the world would Minnesota farmers support Trump?
“Farmers for Trump” and Pete Stauber, super-spreader congressman for the Eighth District in Minnesota, are holding a campaign event.
Stauber and his peers Tom Emmer and Jim Hagedorn attended the nomination celebration for Amy Coney Barrett while President Trump was under the throes of Covid-19 which has led to dozens of new cases of the virus within the White House itself. Stauber and his two enablers didn't see fit to quarantine themselves, finding it more important to sacrifice their constituents to the disease, much as their “Fearless Leader” has at every opportunity.
What might be more alarming is farm support for a president who thought it was a good idea to put tariffs on the country which might be our most important trade partner. It's not like China has attained trade supremacy without our help. American corporations like US Steel and the big textile companies thought it was a good idea to farm out our manufacturing capabilities to China and actually help them build their factories. We have seen what happens when you import pharmaceuticals from distant countries. Their reasoning was that they could get cheaper consumer goods and at the same time kill the unions. It worked; only seven to twelve percent of American workers still belong to unions and the big ones (teachers, police unions, the post office, miners) are under attack. The Farmers seem to believe that Trump's tariffs worked when in actuality the Chinese took him to the woodshed. They held all the cards; we needed to import virtually everything. They needed some farm goods like soybeans, but they got them a lot cheaper during the final negotiations. Thousands of small farms went under because of Trump's trade war, and the relief package he gave them went mostly to the large land owners. One farmer said he was happy to take a hit if it meant fairer trade relations with China. Yuk Yuk. What they don't seem to get is that there wouldn't have been a need for relief if Trump hadn't created it with a 19th Century trade tactic. That's the GOP for you. Everything points back at the 19th Century when women couldn't vote, blacks were being subjected to Jim Crow laws, homosexuals were fearing for their lives and giant corporations committed wage slavery.
How does farm support for the enemy happen? A large segment of our voter population get their news from a propaganda network, and others who watch legitimate news such as CBS, NBC and ABC (note I didn't mention CNN. Well, they did hire a couple of twerps who either worked for or still work for Fox.) believe Trump's easy answer when pressed, “Fake News!” That's straight out of Hitler and Josef Goebbels.
Farmers for Trump is akin to bankers going to the James Gang for help against bank robberies. Democrats in Minnesota go by the initials DFL, Democratic Farmer Labor. Some farmers miners, and police officers seem to have forgotten who gave them what little they have. Click here to post or read comments.
