Abortion and gun decisions from the Supreme Court are reactionary and political.
The Supreme Court made two specious rulings in a matter of days. On gun laws in New York City, they overruled licensing requirements which will lead to another blood bath as it did when they overruled Chicago's gun laws. Take a listen to what the 2nd Amendment actually says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." We don't need no stinking well regulated militia. We have a standing army, and we don't have to worry about the English taking our guns as they did prior to the Revolution. It's ambiguous and should be amended if not repealed as we did with Prohibition.
Repealing settled law as they did with Roe vs. Wade was a slap in the face to Americans who value a right to privacy. Alito claims there is no right to privacy in the Constitution. If there isn't, there definitely should be. Does this mean we can go to a Supreme Court justices home and infringe on his/her privacy? Of course not. Tit for tat. I'm also really tired of all those scam and spam calls on my telephone. It's harassment. I should have a right to privacy.
Originalism on the Supreme Court seems to be a disease. We live in 2022, not 1787. The Constitution should be a living document. We're not talking about the Bible here. Originalists think that's literal also. But do you really believe that a baby should be born with the original sin of Adam and Eve? Personally I don't think it was a sin to eat of the forbidden fruit. It was a fortunate fall. So what if we were forced to live by the sweat of our brows. Some think that's a good thing. If the Garden of Eden actually existed, we have grown exponentially since. We have decoded the gene; we have put a man on the moon. We have sent a telescope into space that can see back to the Big Bang. Sure Russia invaded Ukraine, but eventually Putin will die of a brain hemorrhage as did his hero Stalin, and hopefully they'll revert to the democracy they had a chance to build when the Soviet Union shriveled and died.
