A short philosophical essay.

Never Never Land (where children never grow up)

I've come to realize that there are many in the world for whom hope really is more important than truth. They often cannot

face the truth because despair is too painful for them. I have a tendency to pity these people though it disturbs me that

they are unaware of the harm caused by their ignorance. ◄ I am referring to my own siblings here.

There are others in the world who are enlightened, who place truth and justice above believing what they wish to be true.

But alas, we are greatly outnumbered. Some of our adversaries are truly wicked, with no consideration for the rights of others,

but many are not wicked at all. Rather, they are child-like, foolish. They simply have not obtained wisdom, and as a result

they are easily misled by the wicked and incapable of recognizing the harm that they do.

How do we bring enlightenment to the disinterested masses? I don't know that there is an answer.

Life goes on. I try to accept things as they are.

Addendum (an attempt to explain why, for many, other considerations are more important than truth):

Some people seek enlightenment (and thereby obtain wisdom). Others simply choose to follow a creed.

(Wisdom is rarely obtained by becoming a follower.)

Once a person has chosen a creed, their desire to believe that their choice was a good one often becomes

stronger than their desire to discover what is actually true.

And there are still others who, for personal reasons, have a desperate need to believe the teachings of

their chosen creed. The hope that it brings them is more valuable to them than knowing what is true.

This video expresses a lot of my own feelings since Donald Trump has been back in office, including my

desire to avoid associating with Trump supporters (including family members), and the conflict between

my despair and my desire to fight to save America.

Donald Trump is an "imp of the perverse". He does what he shouldn't do because he gets away with it.

In doing so, he reveals the gullibility and irresponsibility of nearly half of the American people,

and the cowardice (or incompetence) of nearly all of the Republicans in congress. And that forces us to

recognize what we do not wish to admit: that under certain circumstances, the form of Democracy our

founding fathers came up with does not work. It requires the competence and commitment of its people

and its leaders to continue.

George Washington: I cannot tell a lie.

Donald Trump: I cannot tell the truth.

MAGA: We cannot tell the difference (and we don't care).
