It has been brought to my attention that with my previous article I was trying to instigate a coup. I wanted to reiterate what I said in the article. Changes in government can be made LEGALLY. I do not, in any respect, condone or encourage anyone to try to do so through illegal means.
Our Constitution is all about the rights of the people to govern. We have the right to peaceful assembly. We have the right to a free press. We have the right to speak our minds. We have other rights which we must be aware of to effectively safeguard us. There are laws within its many articles that protect those who are American citizens and even what constitutes what makes a person an American, as well as how to become an American. Look it up for yourselves if you have any doubts (which the current administration would create in our collective minds). Those who violate the laws are, and should be, punished, again according to the law of the land.
As for the role of the military, those who have read my previous articles know that I question which oath a service member should honor: to defend the Constitution or to obey the President. We need to remember that the Constitution governs the President's role, not the other way around. There have been many instances in history where service members have refused to obey their commanders because they knew what was being asked of them was wrong. Case in point, during the Sand Creek Massacre of November 29, 1864, Captain Silas Soule and Lieutenant Joseph Cramer both refused to open fire on the Cheyenne and Arapaho encampment. Both wrote letters of condemnation afterward that described in detail what had happened, which led to official investigations into the true facts surrounding the massacre. The bottom line is, the military represents our Constitution and should therefore be answerable to it. Where do their true loyalties lie? With the Constitution or a treasonous felon who would be emperor rather the President of a democracy?
In conclusion I once again remind those who would make changes that those changes can be made legally. There will be push back and repercussions from those who want to maintain the status quo (consider the history of the Civil Rights Movement), but if we persevere in unison we will overcome the cancer of those who would disrespect our rights and restore our democracy to what it should be.
