ALERNATIVE FACTS a.k.a. UNADULTERATED LIES By Uriah J. Fields
During a "Meet the Press" interview of January 22, 2017, Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, in an attempt to defend Sean Spicer's statement about the attendance at Trump's inauguration as the 45th President of the United States, referred to Spicer's statement as "alternative facts."
Although no actual count of the number of people attending Trump's inauguration was made nearly everyone, except right-wing supporters of Trump, maintain that there were fewer people at the Trump's inauguration than at Obama's inauguration. Trump and his spokespersons, including Kellyanne and Sean, but by no means limited to them, said more people attended Trump's inauguration than any inauguration of recent Presidents. Moreover, anyone viewing photographs of the crowds attending Trump's inauguration and Obama's inauguration would agree that fewer people attended Trump's inauguration than Obama's inauguration.
If this was the only incident in which "alternative facts" - exaggeration and hyperbole - occurred this would not be a matter of concern, but "alternative facts" are likely to be used in myriad occurrences during the Trump Administration.
There is no such "animal" or other creature or thing, factually speaking, known as "alternative facts." Alternative facts" are in in fact, a.k.a "Unadulterated lies."
My Grandfather Benjamin Franklin Fields born in slavery who established the Fields School that I attended the first eight years of my schooling said, "Figures don't lie but lies will figure." Whenever I hear "alternative facts" I am reminded of this wisdom truth of my Grandfather's.
Who's afraid to call "alternative facts," "unadulterated lies?" Not I or anyone who embraces and honors truth."
