On March 5, I celebrated my 60th Birthday - that makes me eligible now for Meals-on-Wheels per the Council on Aging! (lol!)
I was blessed to enjoy that day off, went to Mass with my wife, enjoyed Pioneer Woman "Rib Eye Steaks With Cowboy Butter," sipped on some Merlot and devoured some Coconut Cake all made by my better-half - the latter with many candles on it to blow out!
And what better birthday present could there have been for me than the Season of Lent, which began on Ash Wednesday - the day after my birthday, to better prepare myself and my sinful nature for Easter by practicing alms-giving, fasting and prayer???
And as this is March, noted as Social Work Month, I can't help be reflect on how blessed I have been in my profession to be able to advocate for people, unborn and born, of all (st-)ages (of life).
Yesterday, I heard on Glenn Beck his interview with Abby Johnson, a former director of a "Planned Barren-hood" in Texas. Abby's wonderful book, "Unplanned," has been made into a movie that will be at many theaters in Baton Rouge and around the country this weekend.
Wherever you may stand on abortion, I highly recommend this on your movie watching list, as it is so relevant as a juxtaposition to the current unfortunate national trend to devalue life in and OUTSIDE the womb - those human beings who will never be able to hear "Happy Birthday to you" sung to them with candles on a cake to blow out.
Abby was also interviewed by Beck with Actress Ashley Bratcher, who portrayed Abby's poignant account of Abby's enlightenment in the movie - which conveyed for both of them and all of us the following: forgiveness, love and mercy to and for all.
Ashley also shared in her interview with Beck about own enlightenment in and about life, as she had once found out that she was almost aborted by her own mother.
Be sure to bring many tissues to the movie ... and when the time comes, please plan to vote pro-life and support wonderful local agencies like: LA Right to Life, Caring to Love Ministries, Pregnancy Problem Center, The Women's Help Center, American Holocaust Memorial and countless others.
