Why believe a lie? There are two poignant reasons for believing a lie. They are; (1) not being aware or conscious that a lie is not the truth and (2) perceiving 'believing' that  a lie will provide some benefit that include a personal benefit. Perceiving or imagining that a lie will produce a benefit does not mean that this will happen. As a matter of fact, it may not only deprive the believer of a benefit but cause him to suffer. 
     Because at present a certain lie that is daily highlighted in the media, referred to as the BIG LIE, that people believe this feature is presented here to answer the question Why believe a lie? Why do so  many people, as revealed by multiple polls, 59 per cent of Republicans believe, without supporting evidence, that Donald Trump won the 2020 election even when Trump's own Justice Department has publicly declared that the election was free and fair. And why with factual evidence only 21 percent of Republicans say 'believe' Joe Biden's victory was legitimate.
So, Republicans believe that believing Trump won the election will benefit them financially, especially if enough Republican politicians are elected to assure them that that they will be supported financial by corporation leaders and more.
   Think for a moment about the lie white people in Europe and America believed, propagated and practiced regarding black people They purchased Africans and declared the lie that black people were inferior.They even preached that God ordained black people to be and serve white people just as animals do. Jim Crow was based on this same lie.
     In the Bible there is an occasion when a man wanted Jesus to heal his son. He said to Jesus, "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief." Mark 9;24. Jesus helped him with his unbelief and healed his son. But many people who believe lies do not want help with their unbelief or to cease believing lies. What then should people who embrace the truth do when relating to people who willfully and deliberately believe and practice living a lie?
   Realize that when a person believing a lie wants to know and embrace the truth he will find someone or something that will be his enabler and help him to cease and desist willffully and deliberately believing and living a lie. In living the truth a person is a light and example for trurh seekers to experience. This is like preaching without words. Many of the greatest and helpful sermons have been preached without words.
    To both believers of lies and practitioners of truth know that William Cullen Bryant is right when he says:
Truth crushed to earth shall rise again;
The eternal years of God are hers;
But error wounded writhes with pain,
And dies among his worshipers.
   Jesus said,
You shall know the truth, and
the truth shall make you free.
