The U.S. Forest Service has recently proposed making it even easier to kill more wolves, bears, and other carnivores in places in America that have been designated by our country to be wild and free – and to be a safe haven for these creatures.

They now want to use an array of poisons, traps, and firearms -- including aerial gunning -- to wipe out the remaining wolves and other carnivores in federally designated wilderness areas in the United Sates.

Under this new proposal, federal agents could chase down and kill wolves, bears, mountain lions, and other wild carnivores using planes, helicopters, and all-terrain vehicles -- invading areas we as a nation have designated as safe for them.

This proposal also allows for the use of the controversial pesticide - sodium cyanide. Baited devices could be used to shoot this highly toxic gas into a wild animal’s mouth, causing a horrible painful death.

U.S. Wildlife Services, the Department of Agriculture division that would be put in charge of this new mass murder initiative, has a very grim track record.

In 2004 alone, Wildlife Services agents killed more than 37,000 animals -- coyotes, wolves, foxes, and bobcats -- from the air.

Wolves, bears, coyotes, cougars, and other carnivores play an important role in the ecological balance of earth’s remaining - now under attack - wilderness areas. They are essential earth species that keep other wildlife populations in check by preventing overpopulation and habitat damage.

What little wilderness areas we have left in this country, and their inhabitants, were designated to be wild and free – for future generations of nature lovers to enjoy – and to keep these remaining animals from becoming extinct  – not to butcher them.

According to the 1964 Wilderness Act, these special places should be preserved in their natural conditions - with little or no human influence or interference, of any kind.

But the Forest Service's plan could fundamentally alter these areas, allowing low-flying airplanes, trucks, and all-terrain vehicles to hunt down remaining populations of wolves, bears, and other carnivores residing in them.

Please help us stop this atrocious plan before it becomes a reality.
