How many times will we allow this kind of garbage to happen before we wake up?

Approximately 50 million people decided that they no longer wish to have people call their home phone number to sell their products or services unless specifically requested to call. 50 million. That's close to a third of the entire nation. Do these people have the right to decide who does and does not call them? Not according to one backward U.S. District Court Judge, who found that the Federal Trade Commission does not have the "authority" to compile such a list. Ridiculous. What kind of people are we allowing to interpret our laws? This is insane.

I've got news for all of you. If all the people on my block decide they want me to make a list with their names and submit it to companies indicating they cannot call unless given permission, I have acquired the authority to compile such a list. From where did I get it? From each person that put their name on that list. They gave it to me. The authority was theirs, not congress, as this deranged Oklahoma judge ignorantly believes. Contrary to popular belief, the people do still have some limited say in their own affairs (though that say is decreasing all the time). Forget the inconvenience of this delay (surely it will be overturned -I refuse to believe everyone in our beaurocratic government is so feeble-minded), its the principle of the thing. I'm in Texas, where the allowance or disallowance has no meaning since we already have "do not call" protection in place, it is a question of those we put in charge deciding what's best for us instead of allowing us to decide for ourselves.

Apparently, this judge feels that these soliciting companies have some sort of rights that should be defended. Of course this is not the case. Taken to its logical conclusion, we would have to assume these companies' all have the right to have us come into their "brick and mortar" establishments, regardless of whether or not we wish to patronize them. Further proof that beaurocracy dulls the mind.

Of course, the ruling will be overturned and the people will be satiated. But we shouldn't be. We should be screaming at the tops of our lungs that this increasingly overbearing beaurocratic nightmare would even dream of infringing upon our rights at such a personal level. With all the liberty robbing legislation out there already, we should be fighting and scratching at every inch to make sure that our government knows that we do still care about actual freedoms and liberties, and that they do not misunderstand that when we say "freedom" we mean it.
