More of the intolerable from the Homeland Security front.

As long as I live in the Dallas area (or any large urban area for that matter) I can be assured of having plenty to write about. While true impartiality in the media is likely an impossibility, the extent that our nation's media outlets alter the reality of news is staggering. The latest example, very likely on the front page of most or all large metropolitan newspapers, is "U.S. fights for flight scrutiny". That sounds awful beneficial doesn't it? Pictures of a united nation banding together ("scrutinizing") to end the evil infiltration of our society by those pesky terrorists dances in our minds. But then you read the article. Turns out it is not "the U.S." but the U.S. government, acting "despite stiff resistance from airlines and privacy advocates". The subtitle says it all: "New system would check backgrounds of all passengers". "U.S. government attempts social occupation of the airline travel industry" would be a more true , if equally biased, statement.

As Americans, we have got to face reality. There is only one way to ensure that no terrorists get in and commit acts that endanger our lives. The only way to absolutely assure that this will not happen is to allow the government to take over all aspects of travel. We would also have to allow them full access to every detail of each of our lives. All of our correspondence and communications will have to be subject to review by our government. This is the only way it will happen. We have to grow a collective spine and decide that our government's attempt at "protection" must end at the exact point that our rights are violated as free American citizens. I'm reminded of all of those movies where some mob guy goes into Mom and Pop's grocery and offers "protection". We're being extorted as citizens. In addition to money, we also must endure the intolerable forced removal of our rights and liberties.

There are much better ways of limiting the amount of terrorism in this country. First, we should devote some of this massive anti-terrorist effort toward the borders of this country and deport those illegally residing within it. To advocate the amnesty (and required background checks) for 12 million illegal aliens, when there is already a backlog in excess of a million and a half (legal) applicants one week, and then turn right around and advocate government occupation and monitoring of an entire industry the next is a formula that does little to preserve our safety and nothing to secure our rights. Our government needs to enforce our borders by land and sea, and they need to be effective at it. If this is done, the terrorists won't get in in the first place and there will be no need for all of these government controlled computer databases with U.S. citizens' personal information, which is a direct violation of the government/citizen relationship as established by the founding documents of this nation. The ridiculous "Homeland Security color code" can be removed, and our government can simply defend our borders. If our immigration laws were actually enforced, terrorists would not be legally admitted if they could not withstand the admissions process, and if they arrive illegally they would be found long before they could plan and/or execute any large scale terrorist act.

We have to wake up. There are certain truths that are universal. Gravity draws objects toward the center of mass; night is dark, day is bright; and all governments tend toward that which makes them more powerful and the citizenry less so. These are simple facts. It is up to the citizenry to make sure the government's success in this respect is limited. Apathy on the part of the populace invariably results in removal of liberty and government consolidation. Our nation has become an overwhelming world police power at the expense of our liberty. As a result of this, the ideals of liberty and freedom have fallen by the wayside. We have preserved the idea of America but have obliterated the ideals of America in the process.
