The time has come for us to stop buying into malicious behavior.
Trust is as necessary and fundamental to life as air, food and water.
Everyone needs someone to trust and confide in but what causes some individuals to feel as if it's their right/duty to betray and misuse trust.
There are people who prey on people under the guise of friendship.At some point in time they then turn on the unsuspecting prey and divulge or slander their “friend’s” personal confidences to other gullible or avid ears.
In my opinion these are predators, emotional vampires. These individuals drain and feed off of the hurt of others.Often the reason for this behavior is self- aggrandizement.Devoid of any internal compassion for their “friend” as a human being they see them merely as tools to be used to draw attention to themselves to fill the void in their empty useless lives.They flit from “friend” to “friend” seeking more fodder for their empty vacuous minds.
The betrayed friend is left hurt, betrayed and often stripped emotionally naked then held up to public ridicule. My advice is that if you encounter one of these social vampires run in the other direction. This type of behavior can be found online, offline in group and individual relationships. In any community I think we all need to be watchful for this type of person and not buy into this negative destructive behavior.
So true. It is so sad that people who are hurt want others around them to share their pain.

There's a line from an old Sam Peckinpah western, "The Wild Bunch", spoken by Ernest Borgnine to William Holden:
(Holden): "I gave my word!"
(Borgnine): "It ain't your word -- it's who you give it TO!"
And this philosophy seems to fit within the confines of your concisely-written article: the untrustworthy, the energy vampires, the betrayers of secrets and of trusts, those without a solid moral center, are all around us, and they are like all good parasites in that they can smell out a healthy strong host from which to feed.
Be strong and be aware and don't be afraid to cut these people loose from your life -- sage advice!

Zenith, some of these preditors will lead you into saying something. Then when they betray you, their victim, they don't mention what they did or said. I agree that it must stop, but the only way is not to be caught in that trap. Good article. It's hard to know who you can trust.
Great article, and oh yeah it's a scary thought really, as you can never be truly sure, till you've confided, something of sorts. Takes a keen eye to spot a predator indeed. Still learning.

Good advice, Zenith; albeit, love can heal a multitude of wounds with which such an untrustworthy person lives. Indeed, we can be hurt by them, but they can't destroy us as they destroy themselves. They need much prayer. This is a good, thought-provoking article. ~~Bonnie Q
