This brief article was written by my son,Stephen Aubrey Hammack when he was 9 years old.

A few days ago, I came across this article that my son, Stephen had written for a creative writing course when he was nine years old.  He is 32 years old today married with two children.  I thought that this was such a cute article, I couldn't resist using it with his permission of course.

If I were a baseball, I'd ask the officals to make a rule against hard bats.  I'd also ask the pitchers to always throw fastballs and then not too fast or hard, because curves and sliders and all that other junk would make me dizzy.  I'd also tell the batters not to hit me so hard or far because then I could get hurt.  I would also say to the batter, not to hit me on the ground because some of my leather skin could come off.  I'd make sure to tell the fielders to be sure and catch me.  If none of these people would do the things I asked them, I'd tell all of my kind to retire.  If all the other baseballs, young and old wouldn't do as I asked them, I'd go on strike.  If the pitchers threw me, I'd stick to their hand and if the pitcher threw me for the batter to hit, I'd fall to the ground.  If the batter hit me, Id stop a few inches in front of home plate.  Then the umpire would probably think I was lopsided so he'd get a new ball.  If something happened to the other balls, I'd cling to the umpire's little bag and nobody could get me out.  Every other chance I could get, I would roll into the mud and get the player's hands dirty. But when the people that never got hits came up to bat, I'd shift my position and let the bat hit me so I could fly over the fence.  That's what I'd do if I were a baseball.
