I'm not a doctor, nor am I a scientist, but if opinion counts, it doesn't exist.

I'm not a doctor, nor am I a scientist, but if opinion counts, it doesn't exist.
For too many years now, doctors have been talking about the elderly and short term memory loss as they age. My grandmother, for instance, when she reached her 70's, couldn't tell me what she had for lunch, but could  recall events from her past--as far back as her childhood--with great accuracy. Sound familiar. Do you have a grandparent or elderly parent, aunt, uncle and so on who can do the same? Makes you think, doesn't it? Here's my opinion: our minds can be compared to a computer; say 120 gigs. We begin storing memories from the day we're old enough to realize what's happening around us. And we continue doing this for our entire lives. So, like that 120 gig hard drive that you put too many programs on, we start to run out of space. Think about it! Think about those relatives who can recall movies they've seen in the 1930's and 40's, who the stars were, what the plot was about and can't recall a movie they saw yesterday. Folks, as we age, we run out of space on our hard drives. Even though scientists claim we don't utilize the entire capacity of our brains, what we do use starts to run out of gigs. Sometimes I wish someone would invent a cleaner for our minds to clear unnecessary files from the hard drives in our brain. Then we'd have plenty of storage space for the rest of our lives.

What's your opinion?

Thanks for another view -point. But I question the word nonsense. As a sufferer all of my life,I think there are tools one can use to help combat the problem. Good write, Keep writng.
