From this review:

"This heroine is every girl and none, reflecting Jill Winters’ knack for presenting non-cliché characters that speak to all. What’s more, the sizzling love-making in this story is realistically- identifiable by females."

Barnes and Noble Bestseller Jill Winters offers a delectable, edge-of-your-seat story mixing delicious pastries and men with a racy New England murder mystery. In Raspberry Crush readers see through the eyes of Billy Cabot, gifted in the ways of creation, including the Raspberry Crush drink she concocts, artsy cakes she decorates, and loving ex “who got away” and is now back. The plot thickens with ex Seth’s entrance into the bakery where she works, a fateful fluke in which he has agreed to meet the caterer for a family friend and that caterer is Billy. Then, a town outcast named Ted drops dead at the catered town function.

As Billy becomes convinced Ted’s death was actually murder and one somehow connected with her favorite single aunt -- who had a romance with Ted years prior -- events intensify. Someone throws tomatoes at Billy’s window then makes throaty threats telling her to “go away.” She can’t help but get Seth involved, who she is in lust and love over and who has relevant contacts, including his gossipy family friend. Threats escalate as do steamy interludes.

Intertwined throughout, are quirky characters with funny flaws. There’s the uppity woman next door who harbors a grudge toward Billy since her dog ate several heirloom tomatoes; a woman named Georgette, co-worker of Billy’s at the bakery and bitter toward an ex-love. Then there’s Billy’s “official” yet oddball boyfriend (not Seth) who ends the barely-there relationship then surprises her with reconciliation via Burger King under a bitterly cold and windy sky. Who murdered Ted? It could be any one.

Billy Cabot is refreshingly real. She puts pounds onto an already-curvy frame yet remains beautiful with full lashes and a kind, artistic soul. Ever upbeat, she seeks an impenetrable love and career. This heroine is every girl and none, reflecting Jill Winters’ knack for presenting non-cliché characters that speak to all. What’s more, the sizzling love-making in this story is realistically-identifiable by females!

Hi Sara,

Excellent review. Sounds like a refreshing break from heavy novels.

Happy holidays!

Sounds like fun! The plot-line reminds me slightly of Goldie Alexander's "Unjust Desserts".
