The airline industry is not Wall Street.
Nor is it providing the service
for which it was designed.
Uncommon Sense
"In all thy getting, put common sense first."
That admonition’s interpretation should apply to the airline industry today, but where else is there an opportunity to fly on planes being maintained by firms which are in bankruptcy or are heading for it.
And where else is there a thrill ride to literally put our lives on the line for morfe bad management and rocketing fuel costs, including a queasy feeling that things aren’t right anymore in America’s skies.
So now the European Airbus group seems to have stolen away our aircraft manufacturing industry with its A-380, a new lumbering monster capable of carrying over 800 passengers, weighing over a million pounds, and with jet fuel use exceeding all other airplanes.
Aircraft makers and airline companies have omitted common sense in designing airplanes and their operation with flexibility foremost. They now find themselves holding airborne tigers by the tails, as paying passengers seek safer and more relliable ways to get from here to there.
The current situation is a no-winner, offering no alternative while we risk life and limb, mot to mention sky-high fares and kindergarten goody snacks served to passengers by employees in short supply, and with poor training which displays open desperation. It would seem that their jobs amount to no more than keeping uncommon machines and their operators flying wary passengers through tentative skyways.
Seems as if common sense in lots of places is replaced by strange decisions, filled with more uncommen sense than we could imagine. A very good point, a well crafted article.

Good points William, but from a European point of view the Airbus is as big a white elephant as Concorde was. There may be a market for a few on long haul work, but the effort and therefore fuel needed to hurl them through the sky is anti - social. My own view is that we all have to slow down and start looking at more environmentally friendly ways of travelling, even if it does take longer.
