We all spend money, some more than others. I was telling one of my aquantances some time ago (in village they are considered as distant relatives) that my Chicago roommate's girlfriend needed fifty pair of shoes (much of that accumulated over the years) --- they were all surprised! But if no one buys, urban life-style could not continue, and new businesses could not flourish.
But if you only borrow and spend (the way I do sometimes), you may land up into soup, visiting soup kitchen for life! Do you want to get into another "Savings and Loan" scandal as Mr. George Bush Sr. faced?
Why all spending do not lead to what we call 'investment'? Many Indians have steady small savings pattern (they could manage with $10,000 per annum in Chicago without a car). But could they make any impact in Biotech and Infotech (the dens of the billionaires)?
While I used to work in the Harold Washington Library (Chicago), I authored about thirty essays (papers), none of them I could print. The topics were related to culture of spending and consumption, racial (and/or religion) behavior; science,technology and development; and immigration issues. I do not feel like re-writing, but I might write on similar topics later.
In the meantime why don't you check your personal finance (most of it could not be changed) and convince yourself if you could change your spending/saving/investment patterns!
