This is True!

As I stood on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena on January 1st 2000 watching The Rose Bowl Parade pass by I wondered as many of us did in those days what the New Millennium would be like?

I was standing in the second row of a throng of folks jockeying for better looks all around me. They pushed and shoved and kicked with the feet of the little ones on their shoulders. I was finding it difficult to consume my burrito when suddenly I felt a tap one my foot and looked down to see a huge drop of salsa had dribbled upon the toe of my finest leather cowboy boot.

We were jammed together like proverbial sardines and I knew it would be difficult wiping it off as stooping down was without proper distance and this was California where you don’t bend over in mixed crowds.

Suddenly my eyes burst open wide! Just beside my blemished boot lay a 20-Dollar bill! In all my living days the most I had ever found was a quarter.

This was monumental. My first thought was someone close obviously lost it and was searching. Instinctively, (which is rather bizarre because as I stated this was my first big find so how could instincts prevail?), I covered the bill with my foot.

My conscious never leaves me alone and I succumbed to it by asking, “Did anyone lose a 20 dollar bill?”
I’m sure you can imagine the response.

I realized I could stifle my conscious with the old “Finders losers keepers weepers” ditty and declared the money to be mine.

The parade was only half passed my location and as I said there was no bending over so I stood there steadfast with my foot never moving until the parade was over and everybody had left. My body was stiff by then but never without the flexibility to pick up a twenty.

As I stood there looking at it I said to myself, “This is going to be My Millennium!”

There’s more – but later!
