Did you ever take notice that the Christmas Specials on TV used to feature cute little stories about Rudolph, Runaway Snowmen and Santa's Elves for kids? The Christmas specials for adults featured talented singers dancing and singing our favorite Christmas songs, along with hymms that were reminders of the true story behind Christmas. Now we get specials about people dying of some tragic disease, fighting their way to survive.
I personally hope everyone in this world survives a tragic disease. But what we don't need at Christmas time are shows that push tear jerkers and depress us. People with dreaded diseases especially need a chance to forget and not have constant reminders of their conditions through these allegedly cheerful specials.
I'm a survivor of two Colon Cancer surgeries, so I've been there, done that, got the T-shirt and I don't want to see someone dying of this dreaded disease on Christmas.

I guess we have to be cute in order to see cuteness in Christmas.

I'm a cancer surviver too, and I agree. Christmas is a special time for me and my family. And you are right about the ill not wanting to live through another tear jerking TV special. They see enough tears at the oncology lab. Good article and reminder that Christmas is to be "celebrated," Dana.
