An article of interest that I came across under "Letters" in the local newspaper this morning.
I will just quote a short piece to give a little background on this article. "As the son of an illegal immigrant, brought here (Doesn't that make him an illegal immigrant also?) as a young child I graduated from one of the premier U.S. universities and moved to North Texas, where I'm employed by one of the finest consulting firms." "As immigrants from Mexico, we (his family) only seek the opportunity to better our lives. Anglo-Americans today will never feel the feelings of desperation and anguish from a failed system simply because their ancestors already felt it and made the move from Europe many years ago. We are all immigrants here." Do I detect a bit of arrogance coming from this person? Our ancestors? Does he mean like many of my friends and family who arrived here through the channels LEGALLY? Their children, first generation Europeans, who were born on this soil? The person in this article does not stop there, he continues on. "Many of my immigrant college friends are doctors, engineers and architects." This person neglects to inform us WHO PAID FOR THE COLLEGE EDUCATION. This person is correct on one issue. "We are all immigrants here." Some legally, some not.
