Whatever you write, make sure it's you.

By that last last I meant that every author must develop their own style from the inside out, not copy someone they feel is a terrific writer. Everyone has an individual voice and that's the best part of writing. The variations in style, subject matter and wording.

This applies to blogs as well as articles and novels. In writing blogs, some writers choose subjects centered on their everyday life. Others write about the topic of their novels or their hobbies. Others write about the things that drive them up the wall in this country. I fit in the last category. However, my blogs are not written on an intellectual level as most of these types are. I research my facts and learn a good deal more about the subject that way; not just what you read in the papers. Then I write the blog the way I speak. In real life I tend to mock the things that truly aggravate me. Otherwise the rage I feel at the way people are treated by the government and the things politicians get away with would probably cause a stroke.

So if you have to laugh for self-protection, do it. I'm told that at times it adds more impact to your blog. Whatever your inner emotions about your subject, they belong to you and it shows in your writing. So do your own thing and it'll be as good as anyone else's.

interesting article. makes us think a bit. i am guilty of too little research, i fear. about government treatment, sadly, i learned from first-hand experience how much better our citizens are treated by our government (still falling short of the ideal) than those of other governments. thanks for posting this one.
