Whether you're ready for it or not, the ebook industry has arrived.

Most avid readers love the feel of a book in their hands. Speak to most writers and their goal is to be in print, to have those book signings, and to see a fresh stack of their novel in the local bookstore. But the new kid on the block is edging into that dream.
Ebooks have been around for a while. Many of the veterans in the industry have been active for over ten years. Each year they carve a bigger slice of the reader dollar from their larger print ancestors.
Why are ebooks picking up this momentum? One easy answer is the advancement and availability of the technology needed to read ebooks. More homes have computers, the internet or better yet, a high speed connection. Even without purchasing one of the many devices constructed just for the purpose of downloading and saving books, one's laptop makes book shopping easy and quick.
Technology is only one of the reasons for the growth of ebooks. Ebook publishers will take chances and publish novels the New York crowd won't touch. Some consumers want the odd story or perhaps erotic story that isn't easily found in a bookstore. Plus consumers can shop without leaving their home. That not only saves time, but gas in this day of outrageous prices at the pump.
Once downloaded, an the size of the print in an ebook can be enlarged to suit.
Sometimes ebooks are shorter novels than what traditional publishers care to bother with but which many readers want. It goes the other way also. The book can be as long as the author can carry the interest of the reader.
All that brngs us to another issue. Ebooks are inexpensive to produce so the price stays low. There's no shipping, no cost of warehouse or distribution, no paper and ink costs or any other of the things book sellers quote as the cost of producing a print book.
For a writer, an ebook comes to publication much quicker than a print book. Edits are done online with corrections zipping back and forth over cyperspace. No post office trips, no delays of days waiting for a manuscript to arrive.
Yes, I would like to see my books on the shelf at Borders beside Terry Goodkind or on the front display, but I'm thrilled with my ebook career. The royalties are high, the quality of editing is tops and my book is at the fingertips of the entire world.
Try an ebook. I think you'll like it.
