BUSH MAKES SURPRISE VISIT TO IRAQ

AL-ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq - President Bush and his national security team made a first-hand assessment of the war in Iraq and prospects for political reconciliation Monday as a showdown nears with Congress over the U.S. troop buildup.

Bush stopped in Iraq ahead of his visit to Australia for an economic summit with Asia-Pacific leaders. The trip was a closely held secret for obvious security reasons, although speculation about the trip arose late last month when first lady Laura Bush said she was staying home to tend to a pinched nerve in her neck.

I personally contacted contacts in the CIA who reported to this reporter on condition of anonymousity, (as is their tradition), that The First Lady is under close watch as she remains alone at home. They feel the pinched nerve thing is a lame excuse for her not going with the President and don’t rule out the conspiracy factor that is so frequently associated with conspiracies.

Meanwhile in Iraq as The President began an afternoon stroll through the Baghdad market place many Iraqis were seen saying, “Step here Mister Bush!”…”Step there Mister Bush!”…”Oh, Step there, that’s a good one!”…”Mister Bush, Pull my finger!”
