Sometimes we need to realize that we need to give up on a friendship that we tried to save. Perhaps the value we placed on someone was not returned to us in the same way. It is healthy to grieve a loss but there comes a time when we need to surrender and go on. The effort and caring we put into a relationship should be returned. If we are not getting what we need in return then it is time to let go. We can spend that time more wisely.

Go ahead now
Just leave, just walk away
It is so easy for you isn’t it
With history repeated
Once again who cares what was needed
You don’t regret the way I was treated
What a sudden departure
So callous, uncaring, and cold
Not a care in the world
You are just so very bold
So go ahead
Just leave, just walk away
Without a blink of an eye
Who cares, not you
Well now neither do I
Your poem holds the light of truth as to what we sometimes need and/or have to do. Few friendships--or relationships--last a lifetime, but when they do we have much to be thankful for. Trying to cultivate such friendships is a worthy thing to do, but when it isn't returned, not even in part, then like you say, it is time to walk away.
