LAS VEGAS - The New Frontier casino-hotel was imploded early Tuesday, giving a violent end to the second property to open on the Las Vegas Strip.
The 16-story hotel tower was felled with over 1,000 pounds of explosives before a group of reporters and bystanders to make way for a multibillion-dollar resort bearing The Plaza brand, which is set to open in 2011.
This reporter was among those watching and was able to speak to the first emergency units to respond. The Captain of the little red firetruck was devastated.
This is devastating! We got here in three minutes and were still too late to save lives. It looks like most of those poor pathetic tourists died in their beds. Then again, this is Las Vegas so there were probably nobody in their beds!
I asked if it was normal for a building to go up so fast?
No, of course not! We told them years ago to get those microwaves out of the rooms but apparently they had to learn the hard way.

Hard to say? Could be...or possibly a rejected girlfriend or disgruntled employee. The Frontier holds the record for the longest labor strike. They were picketing for seven years. We should know in a few days. After all this is Las Vegas, home of the original CSI.
