A Writer’s Purpose
By Leslie Lee Sanders

Have you ever wondered what your life’s purpose is, or why you are here and what you are here to do?

Of course, we all want to become a well respected individual, be a hero of some sort, change peoples lives for the better, become a mentor or a teacher, or simply save a life. But how we do it may vary.

We can strive to be an actress, a doctor, a firefighter, a professor, and maybe even a spiritualist. But how many people grew up wanting to become a writer? How many of us had the passion to hold a pen and paper in our hand and create a magical place with intriguing characters, and unbelievable happenings? Let alone, how many of us actually did the difficult task of completing a novel or book?

The hard work behind writing and completing a book can be discouraging. The time it takes, the many mistakes, the possibility of flawing an idea, the thought of creating a disaster and the likelihood of discouraging readers is part of what makes a writer distain from writing.

How many times have you told a person that you wrote a book just to hear them say that they always wanted to?

You actually wrote one. You spent hours upon hours typing away at the keyboard of your computer, months researching your facts and information, days rethinking your idea, mornings convincing yourself that you’re not crazy, staying up late writing, revising and editing, and finally finishing your book.

You actually did what a lot of people wanted to do but never had the courage to!

In the days that follow, you feel proud and excited that you made it through the hell. You tell your family and friends, coworkers, and even the stranger you meet at the corner coffee shop just to get a comment like, “You wrote a book, huh?” said in a way like, “Anyone can write a book, big deal.” Then before you know it your smile dissipates as fast as your excitement, and you wonder why you didn’t get the respect you deserved for your hard work.

It’s easy to forget that not only writing a book but finishing one can encourage and motivate a lot of aspiring writers that understands the hard work behind a novel or book. You can look at the Stephen Kings of today and yesterday and really appreciate their work.

It never comes easy.

Just don’t forget that you are well-respected, a hero, a teacher, and a life saver simply because of your life purpose.

If you’re a writer, regardless of your form, your writers’ purpose is at least one of the above if not all.
