When you listen to a speech, does it put you to sleep? Do you enjoy the speech more with vocal variety? When you are bored with the speaker, you can easily start squirming in your chair or fall asleep and start snoring loudly.

I have found when listening to a speaker the voice keeps me interested in what is said. Sometimes it is hard to understand. Is the speaker, speaking to the audience or talking into space.
If the audience really enjoys the subject matter and the vocal variety of the speaker, they will show their appreciation by being awake, alert and listen to every spoken word.
This is the type of speaker I want to be. I am now in Toastmasters. In Toastmasters this is where you learn all this useful information on how to give an interesting, informative speech.
FOR VOCAL VARIETY IN YOUR VOICE SEE BELOW:
(1) Read a children's book. If you have a child available to read to, the child will love it. If not do the best you can. Really emphasize the voices. You will be able to hear your own voice change. You will be able to hear the emotion and passion come out of your mouth.
(2) Talk into a tape recorder. When you do this do not talk in a monotone. Try to extenuate your voice. Pretend you are narrating the book you are reading for a CD. When you play the tape back, you will hear your own voice and understand what the audience hears when they are listening to you.
(3) Practice your speech in front of a mirror. You will be able to hear your own voice and see your body language at the same time.
When you are in front of the audience, think of yourself listening to the speech. Would it interest you?
