Elephants are beautiful creatures. They have this certain majesty about them, a power that is not so prevalent in other animals on our planet. So what if they’re never squeaky clean and they have an odor sometimes unbearable? Most things squeaky clean are not real, not as natural as are elephants. I have loved elephants for as long as I can remember. When I run across pictures of them, usually in African settings, I can hardly take my eyes off those pictures. When looking at those marvelous beasts, it is easy to see why they were once worshipped by some tribes. Of course, I am not suffering from monomania. I also like people, other things, other animals, including other mammals.

I wish our world could be safer for beautiful animals such as the elephant. I wish people such as poachers did not exist. They wouldn’t if those people could learn to harbor a love for all living things, a respect for the sacredness of life, both human and animal, that the peoples of India frequently reveal to us.  Sometimes the problem of poaching stems from an embarrassing condition of poverty the poacher may be facing.  In this case, they are after getting their hands on some money as quickly as possible.

To be able to live in a world of zero poachers is expecting too much, I suppose. Maybe it is the way heaven is. Oh, can’t you picture it: a heaven with beautiful, majestic elephants, whales, hippos, giraffes, and other powerful animals? All of them moving among a greenery that never becomes scarce or oceans that are pollution-free? I certainly can. Long live the elephants of our present world and thanks a million for reading!
