Soul and Shadow by Susan McLeod, ISBN 978-0-6151-7844-8, Lulu Publishing, review by ellen george

Museums and mythology, ancient Egypt and breaking barriers between past and present - those are a few of my favorite things!

Lily Evans, a young reseach assistant, marvels at the exhibit of Amisihathor, an excellently preserved tomb recreated in the museum. As she looks at this woman's mummy, an elderly lady, Dame Ursula Allingham, draws her into a most strange but alluring conversation. She feels the soul of Amisihathor is caught in the shadows, not able to travel to the Field of Reeds, the Beautiful West - Heaven in the ancient Egyptian culture.

Dame Ursula tells Amisihathor's story and says Lily must help this soul in the shadows find peace.

Lily Evans is not only a great scholar, but an excellent artist. Her paintings of ancient Egypt were what drew Dame Ursula to her. Lily has recreated scenes from the time of Amisihathor.

Seems Lily is also a sensitive, as she touches things of Amisihathor and knows more of her story, Lily sees Amisihathor's life and what happens to have her in this limbo. It is fascinating.

There is so much intrigue - past and present - and love - past and present. And twists a seasoned writer would applaud.

If you are a fan of Ancient Egyptian Culture, the metaphysical, adventure and love, you've found this little book that thinks BIG.

Hope Ms. McLeod is busy with more wonderful books - she deserves to be read and we deserve to read more from her.
