When Autumn is upon us just stop! and see the beauty of it all.

With the vibrancy of summer behind us and the color, although brief, of autumn upon us, we have all the more reason to read for the season. The beauty of autumn appears before us with its earthy stench of decaying leaves of crimson, amber and rustic tones leading into the raw smell of changing matter disintegrating before our eyes. The unsympathetic winds are blowing leaves into infinity with a nakedness left behind.

Chilly mornings with a touch of a nippy frost against the dirty window panes lead us into a glorious warm afternoon with cornstalks clattering in the wind from farm country slowly changing from its summer of cotton into winter's wool.

Migrating birds head south over open fields of pumpkins of burnt orange that sit quietly in nests of dry hay and the fresh smell of ripened apples ,garnet red and golden, hang aimlessly in half barren trees awaiting to be plucked.

The crispness of the clear evening sky against a backdrop of a golden sunset that slowly creeps below the distant horizon brings forth a cover of darkness only to appear again within hours to a beautiful autumn day.

This is all the more reason that we should read for the season, and ,as the author, Stanley Horowitz wrote: "winter is an etching ,spring is a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."

      Read and enjoy the season.....................
