Flowers have a language of their own - at least according to our Victorian ancestors. Create a colorful bouquet of flowers to express your sentiments to your favorite Valentine.

If you’re too shy to let your Valentine sweetheart know your true feelings, let flowers do the talking for you. According to the language of the Victorians, each color of a rose has it own romantic meaning. Indeed, a bouquet can be designed to communicate a message for your loved one simply by the color and kinds of roses you choose to include.

Here’s a simple translation for those who aren’t fluent in flowery language:
            Red– I love you.
            Pink– Perfect happiness
Coral – Good fortune, integrity and beauty
            Cream – Richness and perfection
            Orange – Enthusiasm, desire
            White – Innocence, purity
            Lavender – Rarity, dignity
            Red and white mixed– Unity
            A single rose – Simplicity
A thornless rose – Sincere friendship

Other love words expressed by flowers could include:
            Admiration – Sunflower
Beauty – Camellia, pink carnation, daylily, delphinium, lilac
            Best wishes - Basil
            Betrothal – Red carnation
Declaration of love – Red tulip
            Devotion – Honeysuckle
Fascination – Red or yellow carnation, fern, pinks
Happiness – Lavender, sweet marjoram, plum
Joy – chrysanthemum, calendula, sweet marjoram, myrtle, rose
Passion – red carnation, myrtle, red rose
            Remembrance – pansy
            Sweet dreams – phlox
Sweetness – delphinium, lilac, magnolia, sweet violet
Warm feelings – mint, all varieties
            Wedded love – ivy

. . .  For there is a language of flowers.
For there is a sound reasoning upon all flowers.
For elegant phrases are nothing but flowers.
