seeks to re-establish broken relationships between

man and fellow man and between man and God.”

Discuss this statement in relation to historical and

 Biblical models the Church has used and their

appropriateness for urban ministry, today.

We start our journey, by looking back at the eight 

historical periods, noted by Clebsch and Jaekle and

how they focused mainly, on one of the four, major

functions of pastoral care.

Then we progress, with a more detailed look at how we 

may define the reconciling function and where

forgiveness fits into that function.

Finally we summarize, with the role of pastoral carers 

and how they may employ the major pastoral functions,

in today’s broken world.
