Do you think 1984 could be considered a horror novel, or possibly science fiction?

I've recently re-read 1984 by George Orwell and find that it still speaks to me. Although many years have passed since last I read it, I was very impressed with Orwell's philosophical point of view. He seems to have been very sensitive to the oppression of the proles (proletariats). But yes, I also drew the same conclusion that change will come from the bottom, but don't hold your breath because the bottom is useless and so easily minipulated. Do you think our present society is very different from the one that George Orwell envisioned back in his day?

These days they say that cameras are everwhere. There might even be a telescreen in my bedroom (how utterly boring to know that my sex life is being watched), so I am reigning in my usual antics and engaging in an abstract excercise in behavior modification. I try very hard not to confuse my thinkright with my spellcheck briefs from rusty old fools who have lost self esteem by chaos theorists.

Oftentimes, I felt that Orwell was revealing much of his own personal life. He did not grow to hate imperialism, colonialism, facism, and totalitarianism over night. He was once a cop and possibly a torturer himself (Burma Police).

It would be so wonderful to live a life in a world of trust, mutual admiration, and respect. But alas, that is not the world of today.

The telescreen has just reminded me that my time on this computer is almost up. Remember when our literature is censured and our language is limited we lose the power of self expression, we lose free thought, and our civilization declines into a society of mindless automations who get their opinions via a controlled media.

Lights out on 1984.
