Crime Action wannabe with Christian Slater

This is a dark comedy wannabe crime action thriller. The prospects for this movie were good, as it started I was misled into liking it alot..the story moved well,with Slater as a acknowledged writer at an awards dinner and then his ride and fiance are jacked by Gooding and his hoods. Apparently there were missing diamonds. I expected this to be a great movie involving some kind of heist. It turned out to be a budget challenged flick with action, comedy and some bad direction.

Slater is good as the befuddled guy who is overwhelmed and can't straighten out his life. How could he ever write that best seller? His agent I think had the funniest lines in the movie. Then he is involved with two strong women- one who comes back from the dead- the other his current flame- turns out to be an FBI agent. Then there are the catfight scenes between these women. Someone should have consulted Eastwood on how to film fight scenes on a budget.

Gooding is great as the pampered metro ruthless hood who wants his cache of diamonds. I think this should be filed as an action-fantasy flick, because you watch it like a train wreck- can't believe its good and fantasize that it will improve, instead the end wraps up like a bowtie. Not the best ride in the amusement park, it had its fun moments.2.5 stars 10.03.09
