I was surprised and honored when she grabbed my hand. I sat next to her at lunch and we talked of many things. She even thanked me for talking to her. When I got up to leave I gave her my business card. She took one look at the card and said, “Are you a writer?” I nodded yes. She once again grabbed my hand harder this time and said she wanted to talk to me. She asked me to go to the house she was staying at tomorrow.
I arrived at the house at the time designated. Lucy was in the middle of a business meeting of many of the women who are involved in fund raising for Lucy and her Kids.
After the meeting I interviewed Lucy and each of the kids. The kids dearly love Lucy and they love living at the Hope Community Center. They have hope, faith, food, clothes and shelter. They are a family filled with love for each other.
I am so blessed to have had this special time with Lucy and her Kids. The interview I wrote about Lucy and her Kids will be in a book that will be published soon about Lucy and the Hope Community Center.
After reading and listening to the horrifying stores these kids had to endure before Lucy came into their lives, it is hard to believe how happy and blessed they feel. They all say God has worked in my life and helped me. I want to be able to help others when I grow up.
