it was meant to be.
Tennessee Williams, the author of the iconic drama “A Streetcar Named Desire” was gay at a time when it was dangerous to be gay. You could lose your reputation, your home, your family, your job, and even your LIFE for being homosexual.
And Williams was a proud man.
“Streetcar” was, and is, meant to be rude! In-your-face RUDE!
And he took it as far as he could go, pushing the tolerances of the audience to the limit and beyond.
What a guy!
So, in these two adaptions, I am pushing the push.
I don’t think Mr. Williams would mind. Odd adaptations are an old tradition in the theatre.
Besides, he had guts!
So, to continue:
As in “A Bull Dyke Streetcar Named Desire”, the action in “Faggot” takes place in WWII Frisco.
But the cast is all male.
[with the possible exception of “Mitch”]
Stella’s real name is “Forrestel”
Blanche’s real name is “Lance”
I think the rest is self-explanatory……
