Part two of the INNER SPACE trilogy of Murder Mystery stories.

In Inner Space I have created a trilogy of Murder Mystery stories, in the first book I gently explore and explain some of my theories to a sceptical mind in the form of my central character, police Detective Inspector Nick Burton.

I challenge many of the things that he once held to be true ; such as ‘for everything that goes bump in the night there must be an explanation. There is no such thing as goalies and ghosties and the supernatural and paranormal are just academic excuses for things we do not yet understand.’ In book one I prove, even to his doubting mind that his preconceived ideas were wrong.

Unfortunately for Nick he is less happy with his new found knowledge than he was with his ignorance, especially when he is told that to use a supernatural power such as ‘Astral Projection’ lies within the ability of us all.

Such a scientific discovery may excite academia but as a long term serving policeman the thought of such power in criminal hands scares him beyond belief.

In story number two, Nick finds himself newly promoted to Chief Inspector in charge of a new department attached to Special Branch in London. However before he can take up his new post he is recalled to his old station to cover staff shortages during a flu epidemic.

Called from his own sickbed to investigate a body floating in the canal, not at his best he dismisses the case as a more or less routine murder but a detective of his experience should know there is no such thing.

Can you imagine how you would feel if you ever woke up in a strange bed, in a strange place and finding blood on your hands ? Even worse, if you had no idea of where you were, how you got there, or why ?

Enter Deborah Patterson, she doesn’t have to imagine such a nightmare… She’s living it.

Something or somebody is taking over her mind and her body. With dreams so frightening she has to stay awake to avoid them.

“ Sleep deprivation is considered by many Governments to be a legitimate tool of interrogation, applied scientifically it will ultimately overcome the strongest of mental ability. Taken to extreme or in an uncaring hand the mind can be damaged beyond repair.
Self inflicted… the destruction of the mind can be equally assured.”

As well as researching the lost or hidden powers of the human mind I found myself being sidetracked into some of the many problems associated with the mind and found the same lack of knowledge. Lots of ideas and theories, many of them as scary as the maladies they are looking at.

So I don’t suppose it will come as a major surprise to the readers of my stories to find me wandering into the confusing mental world of, Schizophrenia, Dissociative Identity Disorder and Past life regressionin search of what ails poor Deborah.

Completely out of his depth in this world Nick again calls for assistance from his friends at Cambridge University and ends up more confused than ever.

Medically Deborah shows all the symptoms of DID, in so far as the diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness.

However that does not explain the terrifying nightmares nor Deborah’s near perfect recall of the Time slipping aspect of these dreams.

Of course Nick just thinks she’s Nuts !
