There are people around the world hunting for an elusive creature known as Spare Time. Although more people have joined the hunt in recent years, it is not altogether a modern phenomenon. In fact it has been around since, (you guessed it), the beginning of time.
Spare Time became rare before the turn of the 20th century and believed to have become extinct in the 1960's or 70's, so the story goes. There is some debate among scholars as to whether Spare Time is actually extent or merely very rare. It matters little because by time they reach a consensus Spare Time will be extent for sure.
Personally, I question the theory of Spare Time, and whether it was ever a real entity. As far back as I can remember, people would say something like, "I would love to do that as soon as I have some Spare Time." Maybe there is no such creature as Spare Time. One can borrow time from some other project to create the illusion of Spare Time but then that project sits idle. Upon returning to the idle project one finds that it has suffered from neglect resulting in requiring more time to correct it. What was gained?
There is only a certain amount of time allotted for each day, and although we try, humans cannot change that. Maybe that the reason we invented the myth, legend, or lie of the creature known as Spare Time.
