I have had four surgeries on my right hand and two on my left. I know about pain and suffering. I worked on computers most of my life and while I worked on them I was screaming in pain. When you are in pain let’s say hand pain it affects your entire life.
It affects:
Eating
Dressing Yourself
Bathing
Washing Your Hair
Driving a car
Typing
Writing
Cutting with scissors
Cutting with a knife
Playing an instrument
Drawing
Painting anyway
Those are some of the ways hand pain can affect your daily life.
Recently I decided to try something new. I wanted to learn how to play a keyboard piano. I am not a musical person. I do not come from a musical family but I wanted to try something new.
I started my new class with heartfelt anticipation. Little did I know that by the end of the first session I would be in PAIN. Horrible horrific hand pain on my right hand. I am right handed. All the examples above once again applied to me.
I called my sister who is a hand therapist and explained about my hand pain and the severity. She said, “it was caused from the weakness of my little finger. There is a muscle in the little finger that can make or break you where pain is concerned. "
She Recommended:
1. Strengthening my fingers and hands by squeezing clay.
2. Make a round pile of clay and drill your little finger into the hole.
3. Push your little finger against the side of the hole using resistive force.
4. Do this with all your fingers on both hands.
5. Squeeze the clay with both hands.
6. Make another round mound of the clay and pinch it with your little finger, and then the next. You can do this one finger, two or three at one time.
7. Do not over do this. 5-7 minutes each time and then several times a day when your watching TV.
8. You will be surprised at how fast your will strengthen your hands and fingers; especially your little fingers.
