The category is humor, and that is all this is.

It seems to me that the selection of presidents has become too drawn out and expensive, especially for those PACs who have to grease everyone's pockets in order to get what they want done.  Besides, multi billionaires have more things to do with their money than waste them on attack ads for presidential candidates that don't get elected.

The Roman Catholic Church has an excellent model that we can follow for selecting the president.  It shouldn't take very long for us to change the Constitution and apply the Roman Catholic agenda to our Constitutional amendments.  Once that is done, we have only two problems left… well, maybe a few more.

The first problem is who to include in the conclave.  My first thought was to use senators, because they equally represent each of the states.  But I guess Texas would argue against that, because they think Rhode Island is a piss hole in the snow and shouldn't even deserve a senator, let alone two.

To be fair, we have to throw in the representatives, too, making for a very large conclave of people.  Very hard to control, considering how people are coming and going all the time.  The place where we should have them be secluded, the Capitol building, could get a bit crowded.

And then, there are the governors.  It seems to me that there were governors that became presidents like that cowboy actor––what was his name?  Seems only right that we should give Arnold Schwarzenegger a chance as well.  Oh well, we'll throw in the governors, too.  Now, that ought to make the Capitol really crowded.  That would be good, after a few days they would all want to get out of there, and the whole process would be over.

Finally, the biggest problem of all.  Where to put that darned smokestack?  I think we would probably have to hire the best French architect for that and then spend a billion dollars making sure that it came out of the top of her head––perhaps out of the middle the star––so as to not upset that pineapple growing there.

And then, whenever a president died, all we have to do is get them to all to herd into the capital and lock them in.  I know, you say the government would shut down.  Well, maybe for about four or five days until they get so sick of each other that they make a choice and get to hell out of there.  That's a darn sight better than what currently is happening with the government shutdown because they can't seem to decide a darn thing.  Besides, most of them take vacations longer than that.

Just think of the time and money saved.  We could all sit by the TV set listening to endless commentary until we saw the white smoke waif out of the top of lady freedom or whoever she is's, head.  What a relief to know that we'd have a new president, by and for the powers that be.

Elections have certainly become an economy within themselves. A fifty-first state of financial resources that we should eliminate from the elective process. Let us eliminate every politician, lawyer, sports personality and Hollywood type. Too much hype there. I am strangely drawn to Edward Phillips proposal, wherever it originated. We could at least hope that no undue bias and corruption had influenced them. Other than Girl Scout cookies of course, and they are sweet. I wish you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

About 40 years ago I read this solution to our presidential election problem: A. Put everyone's name in hat #1 who wants the job. B. Put all other names into hat #2. C. Burn hat #1. D. Let a 10-year old Girl Scout draw names from hat #2 until somebody accepts the job. E. If nobody accepts, the 10-year old Girl Scout gets the job.

Yup. That's an idea, plus limit presidents and all of congress to two terms in office.
