Unless you're a critic, journalism is supposed to focus on facts, not personal opinions.

True journalism, in my newspaper days, focused on facts when it came to lead stories, such as bank robberies, fatal accidents, reports on trial cases, scams and so on. At this time, no personal opinions were allowed. This was considered the purest form of reporting. Not to be confused with political journalism that reports on one party or one official. By concentrating solely on one topic and following it through, political journalists do not really opiniate. Rather, they instill facts in their writings that point to one conclusion. It's up to the reader to either agree or disagree with their findings. It's called choice.

However, today's news stories as reported by journalists contain twists based on personal opinions. This is called yellow journalism, an article I posted here years ago. In my opinion, readers are being led into non-thinking phases in their lives. Readers should be allowed to read an article and choose their opinions for themselves. We're now being led like a herd of cattle by journalists who believe the human thinking process has gone the way of 1970's fashions.

If you object to this form of journalists driving us to their way of thinking, do what I do--Protest! I once read an article in a daily newspaper by a sports journalist putting down the Cowboys as a poor choice for the Superbowl. As a devoted football fan, the Cowboys are one of my teams. This article was so demeaning, I cut it out and saved it. When the Cowboys won the Superbowl that year, I sent the article to that journalist asking if he wanted to eat it for lunch. Like in 'eating crow'. He watched what he said after that in his writings by actually reporting on the pros and cons of teams.

You can make a difference if you're offended by any journalist who tries feeding you their opinions. Let them know that you can think for yourself, and not be influened by their watered-down opinions.
