When a 'real' publisher snatched up Unattainable, my debut romance with Crimson Romance, the circle finally closed...

“Kudos Leslie P. Garcia on writing an excellent and emotional debut. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves a strong heroine that will keep you cheering for her throughout the entire book.” --Harlequin Junkie

Reading Harlequin Junkie's 41/2 star review of Unattainable literally brought tears to my eyes.  Seeing an e-book snatched up and published, then having it praised highly by a professional review site, helped stamp "done" to a large chunk of my writing career: the effort to have a 'real' publisher validate my efforts.

Many writers share my journey, I'm sure.  We may have self-pubbed books, and those are becoming a huge force in and of themselves.  Many of the current mega hits started out as 'indies.'  We know our books are good; readers tell us so.  And our main job, as writers, is to share stories with readers that are important not just to us, but  to the readers themselves.

So why did having Unattainable published by Crimson Romance mean so much?  I have to believe that it's because I'm from the time of 'vanity' publishers, not the same as self publishing at all.  From a family who kicked me out at my father's behest.

Daughter of a man, a published writer, who told me I could write back when I was six, but when I grew old enough to question him, assured me my writing and I were trash that would never amount to anything.

Perhaps those old admonitions from a man who didn't deserve his words to be remembered and dreaded shouldn't have mattered; perhaps they didn't.

I just know that receiving an acceptance from Crimson Romance was one, gigantic step forward.

So...what next?

I don't know.  With the demons of the past put down for the moment, I could well find myself publishing independently again, work, perhaps that isn't romance.

And if the next romance or the one after that fails to find a home immediately...perhaps it won't matter.

Because Unattainable wasn't a star too high, and my father was wrong.

My writing matters.

Author's note: If you read my south Texas romance, I'd love to know what you think.  Drop me a note here, at Amazon, at my FB author page--anywhere!  And thank you so much for following me here at AuthorsDen and elsewhere!

Congratulations! Very few authors are able to be picked up by a publisher. I haven't even tried. Fortunately (or unfortunately), traditional publishers are on the way out. I say fortunately because I believe that many fine works were rejected and never got to see print that would've made an impact on literature. I say unfortunately because there is no real editorship in the e-book and POD business and that waters down the whole field. Any author who has someone tell them that their writing is, “good,” will be published and the public will have to wade through all of the trash to find books worth reading. But then, I recall that pulp fiction paperbacks sold well back in the day. Made good toilet paper too. ;-)
