The habit of reading was a challenge to cultivate.

When I first started reading self-help/personal development books; the first thing that happened was that I got sleepy. I give thanks to Dr. Mike Murdock for putting this into perspective. The problem was not energy, the problem was focus. I shifted my thinking from reading boring books, to improving my life. I stopped looking at what I was going through and started looking at what I was going to.

Dr. Murdock also said; “The atmosphere that you permit, determines the product that you produce. The wisdom of this statement started my mind to look back over my life and see the truth of this. I have had the blessing of meeting Dr. Murdock several times and it was a blessing every time. Dr. Murdock has spent the bulk of his life in the pursuit of wisdom. He has written hundreds of books, and is a sought after speaker.

I once read somewhere that 77% of the information that we receive on a daily basis is negative. It takes a conscious effort to negate this startling statistic. The majority of this information flows through television. I have heard too many times to count to turn off the TV and read! Television takes up most people’s waking hours and while there are some positive attributes to TV, the vast majority of it is used for entertainment and this entertainment is usually associated with
crime and promiscuity.

You, my friend have total control over the information that you allow into
your mind. I made a decision to control everything that I could as far as
information is concerned. I have turned my car into a rolling university! When I am driving; I listen to audio books, and CDs by motivational speakers. I would encourage you to invest in personal development.

If you think knowledge is expensive, it is nothing in comparison to the high price of ignorance! Benjamin Franklin
